Preparation Guidelines

Read through these preparation guidelines before entering the Site forest.

Required number of Packets

Before deploying the devices, ensure you have built the required Packets. Consider adding a set of Packets rather than a single Packet for deployment.

After the Packets are built for a Site, users such as a forest worker can begin deploying the Border Gateways, Mesh Gateways and/or sensors.

The Silvanet Deployment app installed on a Smartphone is used to deploy the Silvanet devices.

Warning

When installing Silvanet devices in a forest, always work in teams of at least two people. Also, ensure the ladder is securely leaned against the tree and is stable before climbing the ladder. If possible, have an assistant securely hold the ladder.

Note

Prepare a plan to deploy the sensors in the forest. Prepare your walk through the forest beforehand to install the sensors in the most efficient manner.

Guidelines

Guideline Description
Correct amount of devices for the day's deployment activities Before going to the forest, ensure you have the correct amount of devices, spacers, treenails and crop wire (if required) for deploying your Packet of devices. Use a waterproof box with a handle to keep the devices safe and dry while in the forest.
Install devices at the correct height and direction Bring a ladder to install the devices at the correct height (3 meters above the forest floor) and facing towards the sun (at 12:00 noon) for maximum irradiation on the solar panels.
Fully-charged Smartphone Ensure you have a Smartphone fully charged with working GPS and a backup charger like a powerbank.
Silvanet Deployment app installed on the Smartphone Ensure you have installed the Silvanet Deployment app on a Smartphone.
Start the Dryad Deployment app while you have a good wireless connection While you have a good wireless connection (mobile connectivity may become less reliable deep in a forest) ensure the Pending Packets have been loaded in the app. This allows the app's local database to be updated with device information (for example, GPS location) in the Packets.
Cache the Map page to the Deployment app While connected to the mobile network, load the Map page to cache the map to ensure you have access to the Map view should a mobile connection become unavailable (offline usage).
