How to register Device IDs
Before deploying a device, you first need to register the Device ID with the Silvanet Cloud.
Device IDs
The Device ID is a unique text string printed on a label which is attached to the back of each device. It is also provided as a QR Code for scanning using the camera on a Smartphone running the Silvanet Deployment app.
Example sensor device ID
Once the device ID is registered with the Silvanet Cloud, the planned GPS location of the device is updated to the actual location set during registration. This ensures the device's correct location is provided in the Site Management app.
Note
The example in this section uses sensors, but the same procedure is used to register the device IDs for Mesh Gateways and Border Gateways. It assumes you have installed the Silvanet Deployment app.
Register device ID using QR Code
-
Login to the Silvanet Deployment app using your account credentials.
-
Select the a Pending Packet.
Note
A Packet showing Pending indicates the Packet has not yet been deployed.
-
Open the Packet. The Packet overview page appears showing a list of sensors to be deployed.
-
Select the Map button to view the deployment plan.
-
Go to the planned location of a sensor. Your current location appears on the map as a blue icon. A 20m overlay appears around your location.
Note
The following shows four rows of sensors. Two rows on the right have already been deployed (Grey status icons) while two rows on the left show the sensors that are not registered with Silvanet Cloud (Yellow status icons), that is, they are not sending data. See Device Status Icons.
-
Zoom in to the area around the planned location and move through the forest to the planned GPS location.
-
Select an appropriate healthy tree within this circle on which to install the sensor.
-
Select Install to open the QR Code scanner. The QR Code is provided on the reverse side of the device.
-
Focus the app on the QR Code to automatically scan the Device ID. The Deployment app automatically fills in the sensor's latitude and longitude using the Smartphone's GPS location.

If you do not know what a QR Code looks like, click Show me QR Code
-
After scanning in the QR code, add additional information in the Notes field such as observations about the location of the sensor (such as located on a hillside, within shadow of a cliff, and so on).
-
Select the Camera icon to take a photo of the Sensor ID.
-
Select Save to complete the installation. The sensor icon changes to a yellow color to indicate it was successfully installed and is sending data to the Silvanet Cloud.
-
The Deployment app redirects to the Packet overview. The sensor can now be attached to the tree.
Register device ID manually
If scanning the QR Code cannot be done for any reason, you can manually add the Sensor ID to the Serial Number field.
-
On the Scan QR Code page, select Enter manually.
-
Read the Sensor ID on the back of the sensor and enter it in the Serial Number field in the Install page that appears.
Tip
To easily copy the Sensor ID you can use a scan text app such as Google Lens. Copy the Sensor ID, then paste the ID in the Serial Number field.
-
After scanning in the QR code, add important information such as observations about the location of the sensor (located on a hillside, within shadow of a cliff, and so on) in the Notes field.
-
Select the Camera icon to take a photo of the Sensor ID.
-
Select Save to complete the installation. The sensor icon changes to a yellow to indicate the Device ID was successfully registered with with the Silvanet Cloud.
-
The Deployment app redirects to the Packet overview. The sensor can now be attached to the tree.
